Trailer & Hitch Welding Repair

Cracked tongue, snapped receiver, broken spring hanger? Get a mobile welder to the trailer instead of towing a broken trailer to a shop.

  4. 04Spring hangers and shackle mounts

  7. 07Stake pockets and custom pockets or mounts
  8. 08Boat trailer bunk brackets and winch posts

Before you call

  • A few photos of the break from different angles
  • Trailer type (utility, car hauler, landscape, gooseneck) and the rating on its ID plate if you can find it
  • Where it's parked, and whether a truck can pull up next to it
  • Whether it's loaded right now

Good to know

Don't tow a trailer with a cracked tongue, coupler mount or spring hanger. Those parts carry the load, and a crack there can let go on the road. Axle, brake and wiring work is usually a trailer shop job; the welder will tell you if that's the case.

Around Springfield

Around Springfield, trailer requests are often boat trailers headed for a lake trip, landscape and utility trailers working in new subdivisions in Nixa, Ozark and Republic, and stock trailers on farms. Mention if the trailer is loaded with livestock or a boat so the welder can plan.

Questions

Trailer & hitch repair: common questions

Q01Can it be fixed where it's parked?

Usually, if there's room for the welder's truck and the spot is safe to weld, meaning no fuel, dry leaves or other things that burn close by. Say where it's parked when you call.

Q02Can you weld a hitch onto my truck?

Welders work on the trailer side: tongues, couplers, receivers and brackets. For a bolt-on hitch on a car or truck, a hitch installer is usually the better call.

Q03How much will it cost?

The welder sets the price after seeing the damage. There's no charge to send a request.

Q04Can a cracked trailer tongue be welded?

Often, if the steel around the crack is still solid. The welder grinds out the crack, welds it and may add a reinforcing plate. If the tongue is rusted thin or cracked in several places, replacing it can be the safer fix. The welder decides after seeing it.

Q05Can you weld an aluminum trailer?

Aluminum needs different equipment than steel, and not every mobile welder carries it. Say the trailer is aluminum when you call so the right welder is asked.

Q06Do I need to provide power?

Usually not. Mobile welders normally bring their own engine-driven welder or generator. Confirm it on the call if the trailer is somewhere unusual.

Q07Can a boat trailer be repaired before a lake trip?

Often, if the frame and crossmembers are solid. Send photos of the break and say when you need it. Rust on older boat trailers can mean more work than it first looks like, so the welder decides after seeing it.
